Day 228 - The Boy Who Lived & Watched

Day 228.

I watched two movies today. Can you guess what they were?

One marked the satisfying conclusion to one of the most beloved, financially successful film franchises of all time. The other was like, okay.

One recaptured a sense of childlike wonder and awe. The other recaptured a deep-seated fear of onions.

One hearkened back to a magical, carefree era when nothing was better than sneaking a flashlight underneath the covers and reading a good book. The other hearkened back to a different under-the-covers moment in my life—one that involved tissues, lotion and Amy Adams sautéing mushrooms (A decidedly low point… of last week).

(No contest, right?)

One was based off of a series of worldwide best-selling novels. The other was based off of a blog—or I guess, a book about a blog.

One reminded me of the simple joys of youth. The other reminded me of how I really need to clip my toenails.

One brought me back to my 11th birthday, when I eagerly sat by the door, waiting for an owl to burst through at any moment to deliver my letter from Hogwarts. The other brought be back to yesterday, when I gnashed my teeth in bed, while counting down the minutes until the lobster-blogging-book-deal-black-friend-beouf-bourgignon nightmare was over.

One made me well up in tears. The other made me gag on my own vomit.

I watched two movies today. One closed the final chapters of a decade-long cinematic journey and will come to define the exact moment when my childhood ended. The other was Julie & Julia.

Before I conclude this post, I would like to say a few words. And here they are: Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak!

Thank you, Harry Potter.
